More change is happening and at a faster rate. Change is also becoming more complex and requires more experienced, more advanced change practitioners to lead and facilitate change more effectively.

Complex Change

In Prosci's research, participants were asked to share their experience applying change management across these complex change characteristics/types:Figure_18.1_Complex_change_managed

  • Spanning wide geographic areas
  • Little or no WIIFM
  • Impact across various cultures
  • Long time frame
  • Reorganization
  • Union environment
  • Layoffs or significant staff reductions
  • Enterprise resource planning
  • Cloud-based computing
  • Merger or acquisition

As you can see from Figure 18.1 (above), the most frequent complex changes managed by our respondents were those spanning geographic areas (59%), little or no WIIFM (53%) and impacts across various cultures (50%).

Change Saturation

The number of changes happening at any given time is another complexity to be managed. Change practitioners are now being asked to support multiple complex changes simultaneously.

Research participants from Best Practices in Change Management – 9th Edition shared how many projects they (or their change management resource) typically support at one time. Forty-three percent reported that the change management resource supported three to five projects at any given time. Less commonly, change resources supported one to two projects (28%) or more than five (29%).

Complex Change & Saturation - Complex Skills

Evolving and expanding change requires expanding and advanced skill sets from change management resources. An advanced change practitioner brings a higher-level of value to help manage complex changes more efficiently and with higher levels of effectiveness.

These advanced practitioners need the tools, education and experience to address complex change management challenges such as:

  • Change management ROI
  • Project health management
  • Advanced resistance management
  • Change portfolio management
  • Project management and change management integration
  • Best practice auditing and alignment
  • Change saturation

Through the Prosci Advanced Certified Practitioner track, you will gain the tools, education, application and experience to tackle these challenges and deliver exceptional results through expert application of change management on projects and programs.
