Why Organizations Are Training
in Change Management

In Prosci's most recent Best Practices in Change Management study, research participants identified the number one trend in their organizations as a greater understanding of the value of change management—a top trend since 2007. With greater awareness comes motivation. We're seeing more resources, development of dedicated change management positions, and a much broader application of change management.

This increased interest and desire to integrate change management is significant for the discipline. Organizations and individuals around the world are eager to learn more about change management and begin implementing it. If we think about this in terms of the Prosci ADKAR Model, they're graduating from awareness and desire and moving on to knowledge.

Prosci’s latest research shows a significant increase in training provided to change management resources. Here are the high-level details:

Surge in certified change management practitioners

Data reveals that it is not just training in change management that matters. Nearly three quarters of study participants earned change management certification, with the Prosci Certified Change Practitioner credential leading the industry. 


Other groups trained in change management

Other groups that received change management training included project teams (49%), managers and supervisors (39%), executives and senior leaders (34%) and impacted employees (22%). Research participants identified these people as peer influencers, role models, or advocates for change. Members of the human resources (HR) department were also commonly trained.


What Makes a Good Training Facilitator?

A well-trained change management training facilitator has advanced knowledge, skills and experience not only in change management but also in leading highly effective training sessions that enable attendees to immediately apply what they’ve learned.

What contributes to effective change management training? Research participants noted these attributes: 

  • Role-specific training
  • Quality instructors
  • Engaging delivery
  • Inclusion of adult learning methods
  • Hands-on and practical application
  • Variety of training formats (including in person, online and on-the-job)
